Getting to Pixie
February 2007 Newsletter

Throughout the preschool day our students are being introduced to many areas of learning – science, math, social studies, music, art and reading. This is never more apparent than during the month of February. Science and nature are taught when the children learn how groundhogs live and what they look like. Helping them to discover their own shadows and how their shadows are made is one of my favorite lessons. The excitement on their faces is memorable. Social Studies and Math are what they learn when they are introduced to George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The lives of these two men come alive through books and art projects. The students will come away with a respect and understanding of why they are remembered. Every time a child looks at money they will now be aware of the face on the coin or the dollar bill. Valentines Day gifts and cards encourage the creative process. The children use many different art mediums to create various projects for this special day. So as you can see February is chock full of learning and discovering many new and exciting things using many different curriculum areas.

It might be freezing outside, but Pixie is already planning for a warm fun filled summer.
